    Say what you want about John's decision to kill the Laramie boys or go after Micah, he is not an idiot. First of all, Abigail nagged him constantly about finding a place to stay for more than a couple of weeks. They find Pronghorn ranch and begin to settle into a life there. By Jim Milton Rides Again, the Laramie boys are likely days away from wiping out the entire ranch. So when John clears out the Laramie boys, Abigail is pissed off at him. Would she sooner they be homeless and on the road again? If John is a badass, why not use those skills to protect the people he cares about? Arthur said, "Be loyal to what matters." Well, Mr. Geddes did right by him and gave him an opportunity. Abigail is a massive hypocrite.

    Second, furthering on being loyal to what matters, John made it a point to call Arthur brother several times in the mission Red Dead Redemption. For anyone who has played the original Redemption, you know that his family is worth more to him than anything. Arthur was his brother. Much like the Laramie boys, Micah would likely come after John and his family at some point anyway. He even told Arthur he would. The only reason he hadn't is because they moved around or left the area entirely. I can empathize with John in that the pain of letting Micah go when he brought about the death of his brother and so many others was too much to live with. While you may disagree with John's choice, he is not an idiot. And the government would have found John no matter what. Look at the lengths he went to get Bill, Javier, and Dutch in the original. While John provided a home for them, he had no means of paying back the loan on time so they would've been homeless again. Either way, John dying or staying, they would lose the farm.

    John luckily getting the Blackwater money let them have a happy few years before the inevitable arrived. John said in the original Redemption, "People don't forget. Nothing gets forgiven." That is the theme of the first Redemption. No matter how hard he would try to escape his past, it would always catch up to him. And he laid down his life for his family with no questions asked. He was loyal to what matters. Please stop shitting on a great character now with the "Revenge is a fool's game" saying (which Arthur got from Dutch mind you, who is a massive hypocrite and narcissist). And speaking of Dutch, don't forget that besides Hosea, John was the first gang member to vocally call out Dutch because he saw through the bullshit.
