All common questions about the game should be directed here. This includes both single-player and online questions. When asking a question, it is often beneficial to share which mode you are referring to in order to get an accurate response. Also consider sharing any relevant information that may help someone answer your question.

    Arthur's Redemption

    Posted: 21 Jun 2021 06:32 AM PDT

Arthur Morgan is the perfect example of a perfidious combination of good intentions (ensuring people freedom, social justice) and immoral actions. Indoctrinated with views and opinions since the beginning of his youth, that consider freedom as the greatest good and allow any means to keep this good, he has to face more and more the realization that his interpretation of a "good world" does not coincide with that of the vast majority.

The problem with Dutch's plans has become increasingly crystallized: humanity does not want to be saved by Arthur Morgan and Dutch's gang. The gang's motivations, which also serve as justification for their own heinous acts, have faded. What remains are ghosts that no longer serve any purpose except to fill the world in which they move with fear and terror.

Almost all the members of the gang cling to illusions, Dutch leading the way. It may be surprising, but arguably the most honest person in the gang is Micah. He knows what he is and he knows his reprehensible code. However, he does not hold it in front of him like Dutch, like a shield, but uses it as a dagger.

Through the highly traumatic event of his illness, Arthur Morgan manages a change of perspective. He forces himself to chase away the ghosts of his own mind and face reality. What he realizes is a shambles. He knows he can't put the broken glass back together. His wife and child are lost. So is his great love and his hope for a life without constant running.

But he can help others fulfill their own lives. He prevents the free fall of some existences or helps them get back up after they have landed. In the end, Arthur Morgan wins. He has received redemption. Did he deserve it? He remains a murderer who destroyed hundreds of lives directly and indirectly. He could not give widows back their husbands. He cannot give mothers back their sons. And he knows it. The world throws him justifiable hatred, and Arthur is honest enough to accept it.

Arthur is not a hero of the past. He is a guide to the future. He has given to others what he wished for himself: a way out. A live without regret. He can no longer change the past. But until his last breath, he fights to leave a better world than the one he created. So his Redemption is much more about admitting to himself what he is. And to fight against what he is. Even against the parts of himself that he sees in others. And that admission lives on through John.

Never paid complete attention to the credits in 4 playthroughs of RDR2, just saw a particular graveside scene.

    Posted: 21 Jun 2021 07:35 AM PDT

Mary crying over Arthur's grave is officially the saddest thing in this whole game for me. I wasn't ready to see that but still such a beautiful scene and a reminder of how emotionally impactful this game is.

EDIT: OK seeing that eagle fly over Rains Fall was also really emotional. Fuck it's too early in the morning for all the feels. Remind me to not skip credits anymore.
