Red Dead Redemption 2 may not save my life, but it might save hers. Posted: 02 Mar 2022 09:43 PM PST This is long winded, so I apologize in advance. I was diagnosed as bi polar in 2020. I have suffered from depression and suicidal thoughts for at least a decade longer. I grew up in a household where my father gave everything for me, but my mother was incredibly abusive through my adolescent years. Being a truck driver, he wasn't home to see it and I would never burden him with that knowledge, so I suffered on my own. This created deep scars that I have never been able heal. Three attempts on my life later and years of communication, my mother and I came to reconcilable terms. Six months later, she fell ill and passed during my last semester of college. Years on, I have wound up in a fairly important role in finance and hired an intern. We're only a couple years apart in age, so it was easy for us to hit it off and develop a fantastic working relationship. Several months in, we became more open with each other, and I learned of her trauma with her family. Moreover, she told me that someone close to her was suffering from cancer and would soon pass. She is in her final semester and has been struggling to deal with the situation. I noticed the parallels but didn't want to project my own issues onto her. At least, I didn't want to until she started falling into the same traps that I did. She retreated from her friends, stopped eating, and began idealizing suicidal characters in fiction. While playing RDR2 during its release I always felt a certain sadness, and it was the knowledge that I related more to John and would likely never be able to escape my insecurities. However, after witnessing my intern start to walk down the same road as me, the only lessons I could lean on were the ones Arthur taught me. I knew that I could make a difference. Since that realization, I have been able to help her find a therapist, reintegrate with her friends, and take steps to treat her trauma before it's too late. My scars will always be there, and there are many days that I don't know if I'll be here much longer. But the lessons I took from this game may play a small part in saving someone else's life. Edit: Thank you all for the kind words. I also need to emphasize and recognize the good work of actors like Roger Clark, Rob Wiethoff, and the rest of the cast. Without their amazing performances, this game would not resonate with folks the way it has. [link] [comments]

My idea for rdr3 (not the usual ones either) Posted: 03 Mar 2022 07:20 AM PST So let's assume jack lives to be over 100 years old. I'm picturing a game where we play as an extremely old jack driving around in a 1992 Ford Taurus, yelling ar kids to stay off his lawn, occasionally threaten a neighbor with a revolver and tell them why he would have done "back in his day". What do you guys think? [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Mar 2022 04:42 AM PST What's up good boahs and gurhls, story time. So yesterday evening my dad traveled down state to come see my new apartment and have some dinner, after dinner he was asking what I been doing thru the winter, and as a kid he saw me become obsessed with RDR1. So I decided to show him RDR2 in depth. He loves hunting and fishing and western life stuff. So I load up story mode and start showing him game mechanics and hunting, setting up camp near a river and fishing. Having bounty hunters come hunt me down, talking to random NPCS. Showed him how you need to cook food, hunt for it, fish, drink, and sleep. He was so zoned into my TV. I said to him "dad I think you might enjoy this if you made a point to try and learn the controller and all that". He could do nothing but ask me questions about things you can do. "Shoot that guy!""wait that's an elk! Oh look a white tail deer! Was that a wolf?!" As you all know the mechanics of the game I'm sure you know the shit he was seeing and how immersive he realized it is. He seemed to fall in love with the idea even asking me "now wait.. if you wanted to could you just live? Camp and hunt and trade things like you say and not have to fight people?" We've been looking for ways to spend more time together now that he's moved 4 hours away from me. Our relationship has been extremely up and down.. mostly downs over the years. But I'm thinking what if this game brings us closer? He's going to look into getting an Xbox and RDR2 so I can try to teach him and we can play online together. Sorta rambling now.. but anyways, sorta wholesome! Might have a new way to get closer with my dad. If you read this thanks for listening. Just excited! [link] [comments]
