All common questions about the game should be directed here. This includes both single-player and online questions. When asking a question, it is often beneficial to share which mode you are referring to in order to get an accurate response. Also consider sharing any relevant information that may help someone answer your question.

All story spoilers must be displayed with the proper format:

    >!RDR is a great game!<

    gives you:

If you're not sure if you should use a spoiler tag or not, err on the side of caution and use one. Also, it's a nice gesture to visibly indicate the general nature of your spoiler before the tag, so people know what you're spoiling.

What impact does Micah really have ?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 11:28 AM PDT

People like to blame Micah for everything, what went wrong with the gang. But how much did his actions really affect the story ? If we take Agent Milton's words to be true, then what went wrong before the events of chapter 6 ?

The Blackwater Heist : Some players speculated, that Dutch's decision of "hiding in plain sight" was the cause for its failure. Over at r/reddeadmysteries, users have been trying to figure out, where the gang set up their camp. It's very likely, that the gang camped in the outskirts of Blackwater. Probably someone overheard their plans.

Chapter 2 : The gang messes around Valentine a lot, which would definetly make people and lawmen suspicious, so chances are high someone investigated them. The newspapers claim, that someone tipped off the law about the train robbery. It's possible to have Micah in jail during that time, so there's no way he could have known about it. So, who was it and who figured it out ? My guess is it was the rancher south of Emerald Ranch, since John and Sean hide nearby.

Chapter 3 : The gang blew their cover very early, when the player accompanies Uncle on a coach robbery, which turns out to be owned by Leviticus Cornwall, who already sent out men to hunt them gang down. Since the Pinkertons are good detectives, they probably identified them and started searching around the area. When the player talks to the veteran in Rhodes, he says there were government officials in Rhodes, searching for Arthur. It's also possible, that the Grays started their own investigation and handed the information to the Pinkertons. Since Leigh Gray is a lawmen, he probably has access to databases and files.

Chapter 4 : Angelo Bronte has a huge network, he already knew a lot about the gang, when they first met. Since he has a huge influence on the law in Saint Denis and also holds ties to the Pinkertons. It's very likely, that the law enforcement expected a bank robbery to happen and were precautious.

Chapter 5 : Bill asks the people in Saint Denis about Lakay, which made them suspicious and informed the law. Charles tells it to Arthur in the first mission of chapter 6.

I come to the conclusion, that Micah only has very little impact on the gang's demise. When he talked to the Pinkertons, the gang was already doomed. This is why I don't see Micah as the ultimate villain in the story, since everything bad that happens during the story is the result of many individual failures, but especially from Dutch. Micah is the most unlikeable character, but I don't think it's all his fault.

    Feel free to disagree.
