All common questions about the game should be directed here. This includes both single-player and online questions. When asking a question, it is often beneficial to share which mode you are referring to in order to get an accurate response. Also consider sharing any relevant information that may help someone answer your question.

All story spoilers must be displayed with the proper format:

    >!RDR is a great game!<

    gives you:

    RDR is a great game

If you're not sure if you should use a spoiler tag or not, err on the side of caution and use one. Also, it's a nice gesture to visibly indicate the general nature of your spoiler before the tag, so people know what you're spoiling.

Unpopular opinion: The next Red Dead game needs to completely detach itself from the Van Der Linde gang

    Posted: 25 Aug 2020 02:15 PM PDT

There will be another Red Dead game. It's a given. Some day in the future, 10 years maybe, we will see another game. There is one thing I keep seeing again and again that bothers me though. I keep seeing people say that they want to play another prequel as Dutch or Hosea or Arthur or some other character. It irks me a little bit, not because I don't like these characters or the story, but because we don't need another prequel.

There is a reason that RDR2 worked, why we can justify it's existence as a prequel. The reason is that, before RDR2, we knew next to nothing about the gang that John was in. It was obvious to me for years that RDR2 HAD to be a prequel so it could fill in the rest of the story.

But I cannot see a way in which RDR3 could justify being a prequel. The story of the Van Der Linde gang is done. We know who the members of the gang are. We know what happens to pretty much everyone. The story has been told and it's perfect as is. You guys want to play as young Arthur, young Dutch, young Hosea. What is there to see?

We know what happens and how it happened. The gang started with Dutch as a Robinhood-like figure and went around the country recruiting vulnerable people to his cause. They terrorized the country for years and had dreams of escaping to "paradise" but they were destroyed from the inside and outside before that dream could be realized. That's the story and it's great. It doesn't need anymore extra bits. We don't need to see the gang twenty years younger.

Instead, I would like to see the next game give us something completely new.
