Anyone else think RDR1 had a creepier atmosphere?

    Posted: 05 Feb 2022 02:51 AM PST

It's weird. I can't really put my finger on it but I just think there was much more of an eerie atmosphere as you explored the true wild west, on your lonesome. The second game has some really spooky areas like the Roanoke woods and especially the creepy swamps of Lemoyne but it just never felt as dark and oppressive, to me.

Perhaps it's because you're basically on your own in RDR1. The gang is long gone and you're basically meeting everyone for the first time as you get helped along your journey. The Ambient music also plays a huge part - something that I felt was severely lacking in RDR2. The limitations of the software, at the time probably help too as the world just doesn't seem as alive as it's successor.

The creepy sounds around tumbleweed, the ominous sky over Thieves Landing, the wreck of serendipity, Tall Trees and the white sands of Mexico ... It just all felt more imposing and sinister to roam around, especially with bears and cougars being insanely aggressive!
